I don't keep it a secret that I dread hockey games because of the way the parents carry on. Last night was no exception. Jack's team played a team from Geneseo. They ran up the score 6-1. Now, a coach with any shred of decency would mix up the lines, rearrange positions and make sure that the other team could at least keep up, knowing fully that his team would win. NOT that coach. What made it even worse was the parents from the other team. They were screaming, heckling the referees, using profanity and really acting like drunk teenage boys. This is squirt hockey. No college scholarship was on the line! We are talking about two house teams........ not travel, no scouts! Anyway, when the game ended I approached the head coach from the other team and asked if we could talk quietly. I asked him about the score and before I could finish my sentence he was bragging about purposely running up the score. I assured him that everyone likes to win but perhaps he was sending the wrong message to the kids who are 8-10. As we were talking a posse of grown men formed around us. I let him know that the way some parents carried on was inappropriate. At that point another man jumped in and said "well, who was it? We'll be sure to take care of it!" At this point I was so angry my response was just as ridiculous as these men were being. I said "I don't know their names but I'll be sure to detain them in the lobby!" As I began to walk away a mom from the Geneseo team asked if I had received her check. I let her know I was still waiting for it. As we were walking to our car in the parking lot, the loudest parent yelled to me something about his mouth. He quickly jumped in his car and left. What a night!
This kid from You Tube knows exactly how it is!
